Kroniki Czarnej Kompanii

Nowa edycja cyklu o Czarnej Kompanii skladac sie bedzie z czterech tomow: They make you feel ok with the wrong they do!

This guy is more or less a brilliant choice for the role, as he sees all the action while also being indispensable enough to stay far enough behind the lines to survive and report everything that happens in his annals, whose pages are filled with centuries of history. Mar 27, Athena Shardbearer rated it really liked it Shelves: Aug 25, Mark rated it it was amazing.

Dude is a terrible narrator. He has three sons army officer, architect, orchestral musician and numerous grandchildren, all of whom but one are female.

Kroniki Czarnej Kompanii — Reader Q&A

Dec 30, Christine rated gleh it was amazing Shelves: Because glem don’t get those very often. This book started off a bit oddly with Murgen the Narrator sliding between locations and times with little or no warning.

The many different supporting characters czzrna add to the quality of the story in their way, and Croaker’s descriptions of them are usually both fascinating and beautiful. Add to that a plot device which allows Murgen to travel outside of his body and experience what is happening basically everywhere around the world, both in the present and the past, plus the fact that the author is using it ad nauseam, and czwrna a certain extent it cheapens the entire reading experience.

Glen Cook drew me in, led me to fall in love with characters, and then let me down. Leaving them trapped forever under the earth, Murgen’s ghost forever doomed to walk through time? Don’t worry – all gets explained as you go along. There isn’t much I can say that will surprise Glen Cook’s readers. May 17, Christopher Fore rated it it was amazing.

Glen Cook – Wikipedia, wolna encyklopedia

I absolutely love Glen Cook’s writing style. Be the first to ask a question about The Return of the Black Company. Imagine someone opens up a door and slams it shut before you get your bearings, that’s how you get to view this book. I’d imagine that when this came out it was quite different to other styles of fantasy on the market as I recall from the early 80s. Aug 21, Ross Kitson rated it it was amazing. He is both the company physician and annalist.

The story just gets more and more interesting as you go along.

Chronicles of the Black Company

This was our first encounter. Are you telling me just One Eye, Goblin, Silent, Otto i only remembered this name cos it was mentioned in book 3 againElmo?? Cherryh, and now Glen Cook. POV changes, but that did not trouble me, I actually recognise that potential all along. When asked for the elevator pitch for “The Black Company” I usually say that it is “Band of Brothers” set in a fantasy realm.

You who come after me, scribbling these Annals, by now realize that I shy off portraying the whole truth about our band of blackguards.

But if you like grim-darks, grey cynical characters, sly humour; if you like your fantasy full of action and character interaction with none of the boring food, scenery and clothes descriptions – it’s totally worth it.

Usually, eyebrows go up and even those who have never read fantasy are suddenly interested. I could get NO feeling for any of the characters so far, not even the narrator – they all felt flat and contrived and empty.

In the last book, the story actually takes place in three different periods of time with three different protagonists, but even there the author easily weaves everything into Croaker’s narrative by having the annalist receive letters containing the other parts of the story. Tired as we were, we expected to see more bitter fighting before winter slowed the war’s pace. I realize that he was probably written first, but I just read about him now, so he now sounds like a repetition.

The Chronicles of the Black Companythe tale of their many years of wars and struggles, of victories and defeats, is an amazingly beautiful one. We fight for money and an indefinable pride.

That the Sorcerer’s and Sorceress’s were tied to their Kompnia Names and that it could be used to strip them of their powers.

This was obviously intentional, but was not flen explained at first that that is what was happening. Trivia About Chronicles of the And not only fantasy koompania, but everyone who loves fiction in general. There were several points where I laughed so hard the bed shook!

Which is why it feels as though there is so much filler within the pages of Bleak Seasons. The new Black Company omnibus definitely satisfies, especially in the wake of the cliffhanger ending of Dreams of Steelwhich supposedly concluded The Books of the Southbut in reality did nothing of the kind. Jumping back and forth through the timeline creates a lot of confusion, to say czarma least.
